ABOUT

I am a PhD candidate (expected completion 2024) and sessional instructor at the University of Waterloo with a research focus on designing methods for integrating ethics and equity-based metrics into technology design. My teaching specialties include technology and design ethics (in the contexts of machine learning, privacy and surveillance studies, and human-computer interaction) and technical writing and communication.

I am currently a Research Assistant (2019-Present) and the Lab Manager (2022-Present) at the Critical Media Lab (CML), a cross-disciplinary digital design facility located at the Communitech Hub in Kitchener, Ontario. Since 2019, I have designed and co-facilitated over 25 workshops on critical design, value sensitive design, and responsible innovation for students, faculty members, start-up founders, and other industry professionals with my colleagues at the CML.

My graduate research has been published and presented at the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing, IEEE International Symposium of Technology and Society, and Canadian Engineering Education Association, among other academic and public-facing venues. Since 2019, I have been an honoured recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, President’s Graduate Scholarship, Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute Scholarship, and Provost Doctoral Entrance Award for Women, and have served as a Research Assistant on multiple internally and federally funded research grants.

Outside of academia, I am a certified Pilates Instructor.
